Work with a small group of other adult learners and your Native English speaking teacher on English with an emphasis on language you can use at work.
Target
This course is intended for adult learners. It is not suitable for students studying at secondary school.
Details
Our small group classes are a fun, productive way of polishing your English. Because you work very closely with our Native English speaking teachers, you get the maximum benefit. We just don't do massive, lecture style English classes: our classes are professional, small and personal.
You work in Hong Kong, so it goes without saying that you are busy! Our small group classes are at convenient times, and fit in nicely at the end of a busy working day (though afternoons are also available).
We teach small groups like this at Lower Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate levels. You and your classmates will all be of similar English ability so that you can all get the maximum possible benefit from your classes.
Our classes are all designed around communicative principles. We don't do “bookwork” in class. Everything we do is done through speaking. Most of the talking in class is done by the learners. Your Native English speaking teacher provides guidance, correction and authentic models for you to learn from.
Our small group classes are based around four lesson “modules”. Each module has a theme, and a key list of vocabulary for you to learn. Each lesson in a module has vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and communicative activities.
Most lessons result in homework. We assign one written task and one presentation task per module. You not only use your homework in class; your teacher also provides detailed printed feedback that can help you to identify, understand and correct the mistakes you make. Expect around 2 hours of homework per module.
Some vocabulary and grammar homework is textbook based. After most lessons, your teacher will explain what units in the textbooks complement the work you have done. This is optional, and we do not assess this homework.
We have a small library of books for our learners. Your teacher will help you choose suitable books. You are free to borrow these and read them at home. Note that there is a small, refundable deposit for borrowing books.

Course Note
1. This course is designed for groups of four students.
2. This course has no set length. Students join courses of this sort until they have attained the required level of proficiency or are ready to progress to a more challenging course.
3. Each class consists of one 55 minute session.
4. Classes are held once a week. Classes falling on a public holiday are cancelled. Classes may be affected by typhoons or other conditions.
Assessment
To ensure accurate placement, all adult learners must go through our assessment process. It takes about an hour, and consists of a reading and grammar assessment, a listening test and a short interview.
There is no charge for this assessment.
