The Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP®) designation is a professional certification for individuals with extensive business analysis experience. With at least 7500 hours of hands-on BA experience, CBAP® recipients are the elite, senior members of the BA community.
With nearly 5760 all over the world achieving the CBAP® designation, CBAP® recipients are experts in identifying the business needs of an organization in order to determine the best solutions. CBAP® Certification Requirements
To earn the CBAP® designation, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Recognizes BA professionals who have over 7500 hours of working experience in the last 10 years
- Minimum 900 hours in four of the six knowledge areas
- Minimum 35 hours of Professional Development in the past four years
- Two references from a career manager, client or CBAP® recipient
- Agreement with the Code of Conduct

Module 1: Introduction & Strategy Analysis
- BABOK® v3 core concepts, business analysis key terms, and the Underlying Competencies.
- Aligning requirements with enterprise strategy and evaluating current vs. future states.
Module 2: BA Planning, Elicitation & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Planning BA approaches, governance models, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Preparing, conducting, and confirming elicitation results across cross-functional teams.
Module 3: Requirements Analysis & Design Definition (RADD)
- Structuring, modeling, and validating requirements (the highest-weighted area at 30%).
- Defining design options, estimating business value, and establishing solution blueprints.
Module 4: Requirements Life Cycle Management & Solution Evaluation
- Managing requirement traceabilities, baselines, priorities, and change requests.
- Assessing solution performance, identifying operational limitations, and recommending enterprise improvements.
Module 5: Exam Preparation & Case Study Practice
- Deep-dive analysis into complex CBAP scenario- and case-study-based questions.
- Exam breakdown, time-management tactics, and application submission guidance.
Examination Highlights
- A 3.5-hour Computer-Based Testing (CBT) examination (PSI Test Centre)
- 120 multiple choice questions with four possible answers to select from
- Exam fee (in English): US$505 for non-IIBA member, US$350 for IIBA member (Non-refundable Application fee: US$145 for 1st trial to IIBA)
- Recertification: Earn and report a minimum of 60 Continuous Development Units (CDUs) within 3 years
