Its pretty straight forward approach, not using any jargon, just trying to prepare the base of hat we are going to learn in coming chapters. Nothing special about this course that you cannot learn by exploring links, ribbons, and the like in a SharePoint site. The author does give a nice overview of the basics, but at times he says more than necessary in order to make a point. All in all, it is an average experience that is suited for someone who has never used SharePoint or who is completely unfamiliar with the MS Windows/Office environment.
