Course Information
Course Overview
A deep dive hands-on course in deploying DHCP over WANs and cybersecurity vs MitM
In this practical hands-on course, you will learn the real-world crucial skills for network engineering DHCP over WAN, with a bonus section on hardening your network against a Man-in-the-Middle attack.
We will begin by building two network WAN and configure a DHCP server to supply addresses to all user devices. During this time, we will also explore DHCP's many features and requirements for operation. Then as a bonus we will simulate a realistic cyberattack in the form of a Man-in-the-Middle attack against one of our networks by using a rogue DHCP server. Then, we follow up with a detailed lesson on how to detect and how to prevent those kinds of attacks!
To ensure the deepest learning possible we will configure everything on the command-line (one command at a time), and then learn a variety of DHCP-specific show commands useful for verifying our configurations and for troubleshooting, and these commands will also help you on your exams.
Like all of my courses here on Udemy, we will use Packet-Tracer as our simulated network environment (available free from Cisco). By the way, this course also includes a FREE copy of my book On the Command Line which is available FREE only here on Udemy. The book includes 100 of the most popular commands and configurations critical to reaching your CCNA goals, all listed line-by-line with diagrams and real screen shots. Hardcopy and e-reader versions are also available from Amazon.
In this online course we are going to learn the basics of DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol). To do this we will use a network device as the actual server, and the reason is so that you learn how to build the server from scratch. In other words, configure it yourself on the command line as opposed to using a server device that uses a GUI. Why do this? Because a GUI is easy, and because the CCNA exam track calls for command line ability. Of course, this takes more time and effort, but it is well worth it. There are some special rules to follow. But I promise that after you complete this course you will be able to build DHCP servers easily and with total confidence.
In this course we will cover:
How to configure a Dynamic Host Control Protocol server on a network device, such as a router or switch.
How to relay that data over non-contiguous networks using the Relay command.
How to detect a Man-in-the-Middle cyberattack that uses DHCP.
How to harden a network device against DHCP attacks.
As usual, this course includes free PDF handouts to help with your learning.
