Course Overview

SQL for Newbies: Hands-On SQL with Industry Best Practices

Beginner-friendly SQL course with hands-on queries, 125+ exercises and real industry tips to master SQL step by step.

In this hands-on SQL course, you’ll go far beyond theory. You’ll practice the exact skills used in real businesses today, because mastery doesn’t come from watching, it comes from doing.

There’s a famous idea that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill. While you won’t need that much to become confident in SQL, the principle holds true: the more you practice, the better you’ll get. That’s why this course is built around practical exercises and real business scenarios, not just slides and syntax.

By working through 125 guided challenges with full solutions, you’ll train your brain to think in SQL, learning not just the commands, but the problem-solving mindset that separates beginners from professionals.

What you’ll learn:

  • Write real SQL queries with SELECT, WHERE, JOIN, and filtering logic

  • Summarize and analyze data with GROUP BY, HAVING, and aggregate functions

  • Apply advanced SQL features: CTEs, CASE statements, and window functions

  • Optimize queries and design efficient tables with market-proven best practices

  • Understand how SQL powers analytics pipelines and real business decision-making

  • Think like a data analyst: go beyond commands to develop problem-solving skills

  • Master through practice: 125+ guided exercises, datasets, and real-world scenarios

  • Start strong with a Beginner’s SQL & Data Pipeline Cheat Sheet, so you’re never lost with the core terms

  • Step into an AI-driven role play: You’ve just optimized a pipeline for the City Transport Authority, and now you must present and explain your SQL solution in a 10-minute live meeting with your mentors (AI characters), simulating the real-world pressure of justifying your work and applying best practices

Practice & Resources Included:

  • 125 exercises with full step-by-step solutions

  • Dummy datasets modeled after real business data

  • The Practical SQL Workbook, your go-to practice companion

Final Project:
Design and optimize a Public Transport Analytics Pipeline, analyzing key metrics in a real-world scenario. This capstone will show you how SQL is applied in the workplace and prepare you for the kind of tasks analysts face daily.

By the end, you’ll not only know SQL syntax,  you’ll know how to think in SQL, applying it effectively in real business contexts. This is the kind of skillset companies are hiring for, and it will give you a strong edge in your career.

Overall, this course was so informative and interactive! I've never worked with SQL before and haven't touched coding since making Myspace backgrounds in my teens lol. The instructor really knows her stuff and is a true professional. There were times, where I did feel a bit lost, due to not knowing all of the grammar and language used when speaking of SQL, but I followed along with the materials and still completed the course. I think that even though this is labled as 'beginner-friendly' it may be more benefical to someone who actually has utilized or worked with SQL before. Nevertheless, I would still reccommed this course and the instructor.

I learned a version of SQL over a decade ago; this course is a wonderful review of commands with an interactive database that I did not have to create to relearn SQL.

Exceptionally helpful and well-explained. The support went far beyond just answering the question—it offered clear, thoughtful solutions with impressive technical depth. Advanced SQL concepts like CTEs and window functions were broken down in a way that was easy to understand and apply. This level of guidance genuinely improved my grasp of the material.
