Course Overview

Become an iOS/Android Game Developer with Unity 2017

Re-create the most popular apps and publish them to the App Store / Play Store.

In this course we will take a look at the two most popular mobile games and re create them using Unity and C#.

The games we will be recreating:

  • Cut The Rope ( This is our introductory game, we will recreate it mostly by using the built in Unity components, so that you get a bit more comfortable with the engine.)
  • Flappy Bird ( We will learn how Rigid bodies behave and how to create the illusion of an endless runner. )
  • Color Switch ( We apply all that we have learned so far to create our final game, and get it published to both iOS and Android.)

We will then deploy these games to our Android device, as well as our iOS device using xCode

You will learn why xCode is very important when it comes to developing for the App Store.

Learn how to earn money with free games using Advertisements ( Video Ads ).

Finally we will show you how to publish these games to the App Store and/or Play Store.

The content is there but the teaching is not. I feel like I just copy what the instructor says instead of being taught what I am doing. Not sure why but it took me 10+ lessons to locate the downloadable resources. Little things like that where the instructor just assumes the viewer knows things like grabbing resources from the desktop assuming we downloaded it really hurt the flow. Usually script is written before we understand what we are doing and if I had to do it again, I would not be able to tell someone else what it is. All the code lumped into the player script is also lazy and bad practice. I really wish the instructor took time to lay out the scripts more organized like a real engineer would. Additionally, common pitfalls are not identified. I spent awhile trying to figure out a bug that was caused by case sensitivity. I have a little experience with C# but I would guess a beginner would have gotten stuck. The "publishing to android" lecture is a mess, glossing over actions, telling without showing, not actually finishing the steps... Towards the end, the instructors switch back from the 2nd to the 1st and the 1st instructor does not even have the files from the 2nd instructor so he isn't even showing you how things connect properly. And in the very end, he gives you a "homework" assignment to implement a high score without providing a video. This seems very lazy. Ask us to try on our own, sure but follow up with content.

Here are my issues with the course:- 1.) The first instructor's delivery is hard for me to understand and he jumps on to the next topic too fast. His pronunciation of words is also hard to comprehend. I found myself stuck trying to figure out what he just said. Maybe speak alot slower to pronounce the words correctly so that the words can come out eloquently. 2.) The instructor is using a PSD file but has supplied students with a png file. He hasn't explained why and this may confuse first timers to unity. Abit more project planning could help. 3.) The instructor moves too fast and sometimes I find myself having to pause the video and go back to try to figure out what he just did. This may throw off first timers to unity as it is time consuming. 4.) The second tutor came in full speed. I completely got lost in the monetizing section because he started off with a totally different half done project which secretly built and it was not even a game. It was just a canvas with buttons. Steps were missed and I got frustrated and seized to do the course. If you are looking to learn how to monetize your games you are about to be disappointed because there is no game monetizing here. All he did was monetize a plain canvas. 5.) The teaching is absolutely appalling. Both tutors need to think about writing down their scripts before putting out a course instead of freestyle teaching because evidently they are not organised at all. I had to do my own research to come back and try to get as far as I could in this course. 6.) Tutor doesn't even show you how to build for Android. I skips through it to get to the IOS part where he spends alot of time on IOS. The instructions he gives for building for Android are about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. If you are new to unity you will definitely struggle.

Basically, the important parts of the games' mechanics were taught but I was also hoping for complete clones of the games. Explanations are direct to the point. Lessons are easy to follow.

I highly suggest the instructor to re-record the whole video. The idea of this course is good: to enlight people to develop simple but addictive mobile games. However, sometimes the intructor made some mistakes such as syntax error or compilation error in the lecture, students are forced to waste time on watching the instructor to correct his error. Although you can say that this is not a big deal but that kind of stuff leaves a really bad impression to me that all those lectures are poorly recorded. I hope the instructor could spend more time on making error -free lecture videos!
