Course Overview

Java Web Development Under The Hood

What Java professionals need to know about servlets, sessions, cookies, JSP, JSTL, Ajax and websockets

This is a course for Java professionals (or aspiring Java professionals) who need an in depth understanding of how web applications work in Java. In this course we cover how to build a website without using a framework. That might sound like a crazy thing to do but frameworks often hide the complexity of what's going on under the hood, so when things go wrong, we don't understand why, and therefore how to fix them. If you have never built a website with Java, or if you have only ever built sites using frameworks such as Spring Boot, JSF or Strus, this course will give you a really good grounding in the basics. And we'll also cover a number of topics that every good web developer should understand no matter what framework you use.

You don't need to be a Java Expert to do this course, but you should be able to confidently create basic Java code before you start. Knowledge of simple HTML is also useful.

The topics are of great demand - the concept of Servlet is crucial given that you are stepping into the world of web development using Java. Before attempting to learn any framework(Spring or Micronaut), it behooves a person to get proper insights into Servlet and how it handles HTTP requests. Unfortunately, there is no active support for this course - none of the instructors or support members are there to respond to student queries. What's more, the instructors already attempted to retire this course and there is no active member to take responsibility for taking on the Q/A section. The course content is based on the older Java version. However, there have been several upgrades to Java and servlet - packages of JavaEE are no longer part of Java, rather they are part of Jakarta. The course does not feature these upgrades and still focuses on JDK 8. You may attain some basic understanding about servlets from this course. However, if you wish to adhere to the latest Java versions, you have to do a lot of work on your own. Even if you get stuck with something while doing everything their way, none of the instructors will be there to help you out. So, think twice before enrolling yourself in that course.

The instructor has amazing teaching skills, besides presenting the code, he explains what is going on behind it with depth. I didn't know there is so much we can do with java without frameworks and libraries, definitely learned a lot, I'm going to create some projects using pure java. If you want learn some impressing standard features, just buy the course! And this is not a problem, but I think the exercise performed during the course could be more interesting.
