Course Overview

Ultimate AngularJS: Build a Real-World App from Scratch

Build a Single Page App with AngularJS, Angular Material, UI Router, and Firebase. Includes Angular 2 preview!

This course will show you--from start to finish--how to build a real-life application with AngularJS. Angular is awesome, but it can be tricky to learn, especially if you are newer to web development. This is especially true if you're trying to figure out how to build an actual working application in it. It can seem like a daunting task--especially since many tutorials out there don't show how to do it from scratch.

The good news is that it's not that hard once you know how all the pieces work together. This course will teach you those pieces and how they fit together so that you can build your own real life single page web applications that persist data to a database.

This course is for all levels, but you will find it especially useful if you are newer to web development. You should know some HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but by no means do you need to be an expert. We'll be using tools like the command line and NodeJS to install packages, but we'll be seeing how to use them from scratch, so you don't need to have prior knowledge of them.

This course brings together many commonly requested AngularJS subjects that aren't seen in a lot of other ones, including:

  • Directives
  • Routing
  • Angular Material
  • Angular 2

If you want to learn how to build a single page app with AngularJS, and want to learn it from scratch, then this is the best course you'll find. See you in there!

Everything is great until 8: UI-Router then it all falls apart. Despite matching the instructor's exact dependencies and code three times I've had to get outside help to revise his code and make the view work properly. Yes I know it's an old version of Angular but my current assignment involves upgrading from AngularJS, so it's necessary. Also the video constantly stops loading and you continually have to reload the browser and reposition the position in the player. Stay Away if you know what's good for you! I've been instructed to use Anthony Alicea's course from a trusted friend...Try it instead.

The fact that this course is now out of date makes things especially hard for beginners who might have not yet learned how to read migration docs. I got stuck on a problem with the new version of angular-ui-router and then I got stuck on Firebase and AngularFire being out of date. I was able to solve this issues with a combination of the class forums, W3 schools, and StackOverflow. This course desperately needs a comprehensive update. Another general problem with this course is that it does a poor job of wrapping everything up. For example, we are given a set of json data that includes attributes such as the date the classified ad was added, how many times it was viewed, and different categories for the items being sold. But we never find out how to actually implement these data sets into our app. Our instructor also faked data for the Contact section of the app, which is fine at first, but then he left us on our own to come up with a way to correctly implement a contact section.

Course is out dated now. Angular 4 is out. The entire course is written in Angular 1.4. Teaches a lot of good concepts, but if you're looking for the latest Angular tools, this course doesn't teach that.

If only I could get a dollar for everytime he used the word "classifieds". The course has a lot of great information but he does go very fast, so this course if you really want to understand it it will be longer than expected for sure. Overall good information though.
