This was a good course. The instructions were clear and the instructor speaks well so was easy to understand. The pace was good and easy to follow along. However the course is really out of date. The course is using rails 4x, when 7x is the current version. The crypto currency site has changed a lot and requires an API key to make calls, and the rest service end points are different now. Those without a programming background might get stuck here, additionally the json responses are different than in the course so you have to figure out the parsing on your own. The Heroku section covers the free version which is no longer available, so you will have to pay for a basic level If you want to practice deploying your site. The basic cost $5 a month so it is reasonable. Some of the methods taught are not what you should do in the real world. Retrieving all records than filtering on user (should only pull the users records), making an api call to pull all records and then search for that you need (again some of the code should being using the call to get data on single currency instead of all of them). For me there was a lot of code places in the view layer that should have been put in the controller. WIth some polish this course would be a 5 star course. Bottom line, if you would like learn Ruby on Rails this is good starting point.

I ran into a number of issues relating to some of the out dated content in the course. Having said that, John is still open to assisting where possible and he has an excellent no fluff teaching style that I appreciate.

Very nicely explained. The best thing is that he will show you where to access the documentation and how to use it, which is essential for the beginners.
