Course Overview

Survival Czech A1: Czech course for beginners

Discover Czech, travel, live in the Czech Republic or prepare for the A1 exam

Learn basic Czech on the A1 level to travel and communicate easily, or continue to progress to a higher level needed for the Czech permanent residence permit.

The course focuses on building basic knowledge of Czech grammar and vocabulary based on everyday conversation. All the topics are presented in blocks which gradually increase the difficulty so that even a complete beginner can understand.

The communicative situations are designed through animation and pictures so that you can read and listen at all times, whereas the grammar rules are broken down to the very basics and then joined in short phrases which are easy to remember.

The course complies with the A1-1 level as defined by the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Czech is a significantly difficult language to learn in a short time, therefore the course avoids complicated structures, vast vocabulary or explaining declension in-depth as it would confuse and discourage the learner.

It is a good start for anyone who wants to grasp the very basics of the language explained in 40 short videos along 8 units and 39 quizzes.

The course covers the most essential vocabulary and phrases in the following topics: Orientation, Food, Family, Activities and Daily Routine, Health, Transport and Shopping.

Grammar includes the conjugation of the four verb groups, the gender, and the declension focused on the nominative, the genitive and the accusative case.

Together with the videos, you will get full access to the PDF materials with all the transcripts, vocabulary and grammar on more than 50 pages.

The course is designed by a linguist with 10+ years of experience teaching languages and working with students of Czech.

The information in there is valuable, but there's too much information and not enough practice. Also I would've liked to learn more about cases (pády)
