Character Design & Digital Art Demo in Adobe Illustrator

The course was a good demonstration of character concept design using Illustrator The instructor gives a quick crash course on brush creation within illustrator before diving into the methods he uses to create two different character concepts. The character designs are colorful, creative, whimsical, and original. Watching Michaels methods, I was able to understand why he uses Illustrator's tools and how I can use them as well. Highlights and shadows play a significant role in the development of the each character. Those familiar with the concepts will be satisfied with Michael's quick application and demonstration of how these can "flesh out" the concept characters. Unfortunately, the course suffers from poor audio and is short. I would request better audio to be introduced as well as more a more extensive look and explanation of the principles behind character concept art. Another addition that would improve this course is a look at how the same techniques used in the first two character designs can be applied to an additional character design exemplifying a drastically different style. Currently, the impression I am left with at the end of the course is that Michael's methods within Illustrator are particularly suited for his personal artistic style. This may not be true, but it would be encouraging to see the differences shown. Overall, I would say the course is a decent demo of a professional using Illustrator and should be credited as the demonstration it claims to be. In my personal opinion, I feel as though this course has much more potential. In its current state, I would recommend the course for those who haven't already had some kind of introduction into character design or spent countless hours on youtube researching character design.

Very unique and artistic rendering style. Exactly the course I was looking for to create a more traditional fine art rendering look in the illustrations. Highly recommended, although you must have prior knowledge of illustrator for this course.

Some instructions were not quite clear, so I played back the a particular section of the video 6-8 times to get the right results from the exercise. so far so good, now I need to practice it.
