A fantastic kick-start into 3D Coat. I was already reasonably familiar with sculpting from Blender, which may have helped me follow along, but this definitely gave me a great base to go off an explore the tools for myself. My first criticism is a very small one: there are so many tools in 3D Coat that this course does not touch on the purpose of all of them... But I want to emphasise that this is a small criticism. The course gives you plenty of information to get going and make models to a nice level of quality. You don't need all of the tools to do this, so in that regard it's a success. My second criticism is that the course stops short of showing the export/import process for typical game engines like Unity and Unreal (or a rigging tool for character animation). Given that this is a course about making a video game character, that seems like quite an oversight. Despite these two points, this course gave me plenty to learn from and I'm now capable of making quite a detailed model. It's definitely a success, and if you've never used 3D Coat before I would recommend this as a starting point.

There was much more than I expected and more importantly I learned more than I thought I needed to learn. Excellent teacher.

I really enjoyed these lectures by Scott. I think his teaching style is just perfect for this topic. Scott takes what might seem like a simple project and goes through it step by step. It's a painful process to watch him struggle through building the form bit by bit and sometimes make a mess... but that's what modeling is.. hard work. He doesn't polish his results. He doesn't make (too many) edits off camera, or remove mistakes from the video. It's like your in the room as he goes through a day of work. This is exactly what people need in order to get a taste of what modeling is all about. His enthusiasm for 3D Coat is apparent and infectious, and I'm now a big fan.

I was kind of hoping for more on the actual sculpting aspects (proportions, building up shapes and wisdom on dealing with troubles that came up.) Instead its yet another "load reference image, make that" style course. It's useful to watch someone go through an entire modeling workflow (and a brief talk on star topologies), it's just not what I was wanting.
