Course Overview

Learn 3D Modelling & Animation from Scratch with Blender 3D

Zero to hero guide on learning how to model, texture, animate and render your own 3D models and scenes in Blender 3D.

3D modelling and animation skills are in huge demand in many industries, such as the games industry, the animation industry, advertising, architectural and medical visualization... the list goes on and on. Incredibly, despite the rather hefty price tag for the leading commercial 3D suites, such as 3D Studio Max or Maya, for instance, there is a gorgeous, feature rich, industry grade 3D modelling and animation suite, which is completely free and open source: introducing Blender 3D.

Blender 3D can be used for literally any 3D project or task you could imagine, and has been extensively by seasoned professionals and companies all around the world. From creating a feature length animated film, to animating and rendering 30 second ad for a retail client, to modelling, texturing and animating 3D game levels and environments, you can use Blender to do it all in style -- and much, much more besides...

In this comprehensive, yet fun and engaging introduction to 3D modelling, UV mapping, texturing, animating and rendering in Blender, you will learn how to:

  1. Work with Blenders non-standard, yet uniquely optimized and powerful interface.
  2. Model your own 3D meshes, using a variety of optimal modelling techniques and workflows.
  3. UV Map objects using Projection and Unwrapping.
  4. Texture 3D models, and work with materials.
  5. Configure scene lighting.
  6. Use Blenders powerful animation tools to animate objects and scenes.
  7. Work with ambient and atmospheric rendering effects in Blender.
  8. Render still images and video sequences, using the two shipped rendering engines in Blender.
  9. Perform basic simulations using the built in game engine.

By the end of this course, you will know how to use Blender, and how to bring you own 3D creations to live, whatever form they may take. The only limit is your imagination, so what your waiting for!? Sign up now, and start bringing your imagination to life on the computer screen with Blender!

Very good! I am learning more than expected from this course. Lectures are not as polished as some lectures on Udemy but even so I am very satisfied.

I had a little trouble understanding how to get the different 3D view windows to join back together after they were divided.

I like the slow pace, learning the knife tool, and going off the reference of something. However, I'd like a bit more explaining in the actual modeling process like moving verticies around or knowing when to extrude or not. I like to follow along but getting the play by play I think would be better than having to pause every few seconds to catch up when he moves a little fast.

The content of the course was satisfactory, but not excellent, from a beginner's perspective. I learned a great deal about Blender modelling and animation from it; unfortunately, much of it I had to learn on my own by trial and error. While Mr. Sneyd is eminently qualified to instruct the course, it appears that his outside obligations demand a great deal of his time so he is not particularly responsive to questions. It took a month to respond to my initial question concerning an issue with Blender. When Mr. Sneyd did respond, it was with a suggestion that I had already stated I had tried. I updated my question with additional information and, to date, still have not received a response almost three months later. In addition to the lack of responsiveness, some of the lessons seemed less than professionally produced. They appeared to be recordings of sessions Mr. Sneyd did in the period of a few days. There are several rather abrupt endings for lessons and rapid switching of topics before completing the topic at hand. Because the individual lessons do not seem to have been specifically planned out in advanced (rather just cuts of a single day's activity), valuable information was not provided in a timely manner. For example, texturing covers several lessons, each of which was about 15 minutes in length. If not all those lessons can be completed in a single seating, saving the texture file mid-process was not discussed. Only at the very end of the process did Mr. Sneyd detail how to save the texture file. It took several attempts before I could figure how to save the texture file on my own. One additional concern is the lack of meaningful quizzes. There are only three quizzes, each with only one question. Such limited quizzes do not challenge or confirm your proficiency in the material presented. Again, they seemed more like a hurried afterthought than a thoughtful evaluation of one's progress. To sum up, there is a great deal of useful information in the class; however, the lack of advanced planning for each lesson and the unresponsiveness of the instructor to questions made this much more a trial and error process than it should have been.
