How to design modern websites in Affinity Designer - A web design and Affinity Designer feast
If you are thinking about starting out as a web designer you have probably tried to harness Photoshop sometime in the past.
You probably spent countless hours trying to figure out that monstrous program.
I know the pain.
I remember spending days after days, weeks after weeks just to remember how tools and effects work.
Luckily we live in times when if you want to start a career as a web design freelancer, you can just put Photoshop aside.
Hi, my name is Dawid Tuminski and in this course you will learn how to use Affinity Designer to design websites from A-Z.
This course is packed with valuable info any web design rookie should know, such as:
How to choose the BEST colors and fonts for your websites
What makes a professionally designed website
What are the modern web design trends you should know about
How to build website’s visual guides, such as wireframes and grids
…and that’s just the introduction!
Because the real bread and butter of this course is inside its practical parts.
We will get our hands dirty and explore all the tools and techniques professional web designers use to design a website inside Affinity Designer.
That includes:
Building wireframes and grids – the building blocks of every website
Using assets to make the design process ultra-fast
Creating text styles that let you change fonts in a blink of an eye
And of course designing a website
You will learn how to design it form opening a file, through placing images, adding text and backgrounds right up to exporting the design you would ultimately hand out to a client.
There’s a lot of good stuff to cover and I truly believe that once you’ve completed the course and practiced on your own, you will start creating amazing website designs in Affinity Designer in no time.
And to make things easier, this course comes with a lot of downloadable resources:
Presentations you can open up on your tablet or smartphone to revise the lecture when you are commuting
The design files you can explore to get the real feel of a website design
And images and icons needed to make recreating the design effortless
This is a more than a 4 hour long web design and Affinity Designer bundle. Every step of the process is explained thoroughly, but without the yaaaaaawn parts.
Please notice one thing.
This course is not about learning all there is to know about Affiinity Designer.
It’s a course for those who already got the basics of the software and would love to learn how to use their skills to design websites.
We won’t be looking at each and every tool to find out what it does.
We will however go deep on those tools that we will be specifically using for web design purposes.
I mean, if you don’t know jack about the software, you can always take a look at my Affinity Designer for Beginners course here on Udemy.
But of course, if you have any questions along the way, I will be more than happy to answer them.
I am here to help, so you can rest assured that you won’t be left out on your own when something is not clear and needs a more personalized explanation.
Also, don’t forget that you are totally covered by a 30-day money back guarantee. No questions asked.
So if you don’t want to spend ages on learning overly complicated software and you don’t want to visit your bank to ask for loans just to get that software, give Affinity Designer a try.
Give this course a try.
And I’d love to see you inside!

Very easy to follow once you get to grips with the Affinity Designer software. Instructor is very clear with the instructions and you will struggle to go wrong as you are walked through the process, which is great as you will be familiar with all the standard design functions once you have completed the course. Even though the course is quite an aged course it is very useful. Could do with an Affinity V2 update.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT COURSE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE - A "NO-BRAINER" - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...This will speed up my design mockup time over 70%. Having said that, however, you need to know what the course does and doesn't cover. ✨First off, this is a TARGETED USE OF AFFINITY DESIGNER -- don't expect to learn all of its features/tools. NO OTHER COURSE ON AD IS SPECIFIC TO WEB DESIGN. It is a highly focused course in using the power of AD specifically for creating mockups for website production -- it is not about HTML, CSS, or other actual website production languages/techniques. It is not about an "export as html option", like Photoshop has (or at least used to have). It is about VISUAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES and AFFINITY TOOLS/WORKFLOWS TO ACCOMPLISH A GREAT LOOKING MOCKUP EFFICIENTLY!!!!! 🔹 It is set up to give newbies an understanding of basic visual design principles as well -- if you have this knowledge, you can jump in at section 8, about halfway through. This sets everyone up for success. So don't complain in the reviews that Dawid doesn't cover enough! If you are after a broader knowledge of tools/ways to use AD, there are other great Udemy courses available (search for Jeremy Hazel's courses), so make sure you MANAGE YOUR EXPECTATIONS! 😊 BTW, the resources for download are on Google Drive at : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4EhouZW-YgVc1JiRTJZOWo4MkE - this was my only "real" complaint about the course - they should be provided in a link AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE--say, something like: Lecture 2: Download the course resources ❤ Having said that, KUDOS to Dawid for such a great course!!!!! 🔹 Excellent step by step process for creating a typical website with blog page mockup. 🔹 Great on showing/explaining the development process by first creating production tools such as layout grids and page design templates. 🔹 Producing a library of design assets (symbols) really facilitates the mock up process. If you work along with the videos, you'll have a lot of great assets to start dragging and dropping onto a 12 col grid based file. 🔹 Ditto for the development of text styles. 🔹 For those folks unfamiliar with the basics of visual design/layout, the first half of the course gives a robust summary of visual design principles, as well as current visual design trends. Dawid has a great sense of design aesthetics. The only thing I found a bit taxing was the last 2 sections of the course -- on creating the blog pages -- very little new content, but there were definitely "gems" sprinkled throughout. Was highly repetitious watching the creation of text frames, sizing them and positioning them, then editing the text. Since there was such focus on creating design assets in the first part of the course, it would have speeded up the course significantly if a mocked up asset, ready for dropping into the layout, was created for the blog features and sidebar features -- likewise, why not show creating an asset of an entire sidebar, blog comment form, etc. instead of the same steps for creating text frames? I would rather have seen some other features demo'd --- drop shadows on boxes, more options on polygon shape editing, transparency, etc. However, the repetition definitely forces the info into your head, so that's a good take away :-) On a personal level, I found that watching at 1.25 speed was better for me than at 1.0, but I also have a strong visual background so I didn't need to mentally focus as much on the first 7 or so sections of the course. Would also be interesting to know if any features of version 1.7 or later would be helpful in enhancing website mockup. I LEARNED TONS -- LOTS OF "POWER USER" TIPS/TRICKS ALONG THE WAY. DEFINITELY WOULD TAKE MORE COURSES FROM DAWID!

Le cours est très bien structuré et plein d'information utile. Dawid fait un tour rapide de tout ce qu'il faut savoir pour créer un site moderne et attractif. Il montre ensuite comment le faire dans Affinity Designer. Le cours répond complètement à mes attentes.

Great introduction to Affinity Designer for web designers. The instructor goes at a nice slow pace so you can keep up, and makes all the concepts and using tools very simple. I liked the course a lot and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks!
