Course Overview

VoiceQ Training for Directors

Learn the fundamentals of creative direction in using VoiceQ Software

What is VoiceQ?

VoiceQ is a comprehensive suite of native and cloud applications used for media localization, including Automated Digital Replacement (ADR), Audio Description (AD), Lip Sync Dubbing, Closed Captioning (CC), and Voice Over (VO). These applications are designed to improve accessibility, efficiency, quality, and sustainability across the production pipeline.

VoiceQ Writer for Directors

The recommended application for Directors is VoiceQ Writer, a macOS desktop application used in pre-production as a script preparation and adaptation tool. It allows for the refinement of localized dubbing scripts before recording begins.

  • Functionality: It provides directors with a single, current “record-ready” script view that includes character/scene structures, line status (draft/review/approved), and notes for performance intent and pronunciation.

  • Collaboration: It integrates with VoiceQ Pro to keep recording sessions moving by reducing script ambiguity and aligning the cast, engineer, and client on the same version with traceable, on-the-fly updates.

  • Workflow Stage: Primarily used for script review, finalization, and in-session script guidance.

This is an extremely valuable course that does teach a lot how to use this software. It does repeat certain lessons taught in the engineering course except for one thing. How to connect the software to a digital audio Workstation. I feel that is an important detail for students to know. I know there's a separate course for engineering, but I feel that it's important for the director to know about that technical side of things. Putting an attachment in place of teaching the student how to connect VoiceQ to a digital audio workstation is not the same thing as teaching a student how to do that process in the video.

I wanted to know how to see how many of a characters lines have been recording - ie. If a character has 170 loops, how can I see how many loops we've covered in a section. Other than that - good overview!
