The trucking industry serves the world economy by transporting large quantities of raw materials, works in process, and finished goods over land, typically from manufacturing plants to retail distribution centers, Trucks are also used in the construction industry, two of which require dump trucks and portable concrete mixers to move the large amounts of rocks, dirt,concrete , and other building materials used in construction. Trucks are responsible for the majority of freight movement over land and are tools in the manufacturing, transportation and warehouse industries. Across the globe governments have put in measures to ensure that truck drivers are people who have being educated in their field to get the right driving license to drive trucks so that there will be limited accidents because truck accidents are very dangerous. The technological developments in the industry such as computers, satellite communication, and the internet, have contributed to many improvements within the industry. These developments have increase the productivity of company operations, save the time and effort of drivers, and more accessible forms of entertainment to men and women who often spend long periods away from home.
The industry is currently experiencing drivers shortage because of the nature of the work and the condition of service, drivers work for long hours which sometimes affect their health, trucking companies must ensure that drivers are properly taking care of. New trucking technologies such as collision mitigation technology, electronic logging devices,dynamic routing, trailer trucking, this and many more technologies has assisted the industry to reduce driver accidents and also ensure the productivity of the industry. Trucking technology has reduce operation cost and increase profitability. All trucking companies must ensure that they adapt to technology to save their trucks and their drivers. Artificial itelligence powered systems analyze real-time variables lie traffic, weather, construction, and fuel prices to optimize routes, often leading to 15%-25% reduction in fuel usage.
