Marble Dye : Learn to dye fabrics

In this course you will learn how to create beautifully marbled fabrics.

Marbling is an incredibly versatile and unique craft of painting textiles and covering objects with organic patterns. As your teacher, I will show you all the tools and materials, that you need in order to master this class. You will learn step by step how to create a whole range of marbling patterns, starting with the Bullseyes pattern, Flower, Stone, Git–Gel, Nonpareil and French Curl.

This masterclass will teach you how to make a perfect carrageenan bath and how to prepare your fabrics with mordant. You will practice mixing paints with dispersants and painting with brushes, rakes, combs and eye droppers.

The goal of this masterclass is to teach you the whole process of marble-dye. You will create your own marbled fabrics, see beautiful inspirations and learn how to apply this technique to fashion design projects.

WHAT YOU NEED

No previous skills are necessary to master this course. You don’t need any fabric design or painting skills. The only thing you really need is the eagerness to learn something new and exciting!

In terms of materials and tools, you will need fabric (around 2m of fabric without any prints), a shallow container, paint brushes, acrylic paint (preferably Golden Fluid paints), apron, gloves, cups or jars for mixing paint, spoons, ox gall, carrageenan powder (lambda), alum, kitchen blender, eye droppers.
