I’m Morteza from ArtStudio313 and in this course, we’ll embark on an exciting journey to master Blender’s tools and techniques. Starting with an overview of Blender’s interface, we’ll move through the fundamentals of low-poly modeling, UV unwrapping, and texture painting.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Low-Poly Modeling: Create game-ready 3D models with an efficient and beginner-friendly workflow.

  • UV Unwrapping: Learn clever and fast methods for marking seams and unwrapping your models for seamless texture application.

  • Texture Painting:

    • Master brush settings for painting AO, shadows, and highlights.

    • Paint fine details like cuts, holes, and textures with precision.

    • Use custom brushes and professional techniques to bring your models to life.

  • Problem Solving: Address common texture painting challenges like flipped normals and texture alignment issues.

This course is perfect for beginners and intermediate users who want to create game assets ready for use in any game engine. Whether you’re using a graphic tablet or a mouse, you’ll gain the skills to texture paint with confidence.

By the end of this course, you’ll have fully painted models with optimized textures that are game-engine-ready. Join me in this creative adventure, and let’s bring your game asset ideas to life with Blender!

Overall the course is quite good. What is done well: The course provides several different ways to generate stylized 3D game assets which looks quite nice. The instructor does his best to provide a reasonable overview of what he is doing which can be followed the majority of the time (a few notable exceptions). He covers UV unwrapping and texture painting in a fair bit of detail and it was a nice touch at the end to include animation and composition. It was also nice of the instructor to supply a full copy of his final result as a blend file, the reference images, and the brushes he used. What could be improved: Some of the commentary was either too subtle, or not mentioned for some key parts which led to mistakes (e.g., switching between edit/object mode frequently, whereas I missed this and had to go back). It is not very clear in some of the modeling what the end result would be thus I often found out that my approximate results were not able to be used in some later parts, needed extensive modifying or back to the drawing board and starting over. He may have a setting on which automatically saves the textures. I did not, and thus I lost the textures I first spent several hours painting, also I ended up having a few issues due to different blender versions (minor, but I am using blender 5.0) which left me a but frustrated trying to figure out why my brushes weren't working. I am still a bit confused about exactly how these textures are being or aren't being saved, but I supposed I can work on that in my own time. I think that after watching his painting style for the wooden sword, I sort of felt that I didn't need to spend the entire time watching him paint the other models since the technique was pretty much the same - this is probably fine for most people, unless you are a little impatient such as I apparently am ... The models created are quite high poly counts, with irregular shapes so not optimum for use as game assets. Also seemed a bit inconsistent with regards to the UV map sizes - At times I was unclear why he wanted to have all of the parts on one single UV map, only to then have some separate parts with their own maps, of which the size was always 2048x2048 whereas I think it would be good practice to use map sizes for parts that require a certain level of detail. Overall I would say that I definitely learnt a few things from the course, so it was worth-while, but for the reasons stated I couldn't give it the full 5-stars.

I'm halfway through the course. I've modeled the chest and swords and haven't had any problems because you explain everything in detail. Thank you so much, the course is very helpful.
