Course Information
Course Overview
Makiwara, Knuckle and Wrist Stengthening
This course takes the student through a journey, with the goal to strengthen both mind and fist, using everyday objects that one should be able find around their personal area. A snake can have the most powerful venom, but with weak crooked fangs, the venom is useless. So too are weak, crooked knuckles, fist and wrist. If the karate ka lands a powerful punch with weak "tools" then the karate ka will break themselves.
After this course and with continued safe and responsible training the karate ka will not only transform their hands into karate tools but also develop the mental fortitude to punch with confidence. Lots of people can break one board once, but few can break one board many times over and over again without injury.
Kata usage will be enhanced because with polished karate tools such as the fist, fancy bunkai can be eliminated. The fist is no longer a mere hand but now a hammer or sword which will bleed into your kata bunkai and even gives new meaning to the first technique you learned so long ago.
Safety is number one in this course. Our hands are important to us and if we have them, we must take care of them. The days of "10,000 strikes a day on the makiwara" are usually not applicable to current modern day standards. This course shows slow and easy drills that should be done over a long period of time. This type of training is supplemental to your karate but should never cause injury to your hand.
