Course Overview
Learn how to use a mixing console, understand signal flow and achieve clean live sound step by step.
Audio consoles, also known as mixers or mixing desks, serve as the heartbeat of any sound system. They are the command center where volume, equalization, effects, and signal routing to speakers and recorders are meticulously controlled.
In the realm of live presentations, the console operator is the virtuoso, fine-tuning settings to achieve a flawless mix that resonates with perfection.
However, all too often, those entrusted with operating sound systems lack the essential training, leading to a cascade of issues:
- Distortion and noise plaguing channels or the entire system
- Lack of clarity in the auditory experience
- Irritating feedback problems (squeals and buzzing)
- Equipment damage
- Hearing impairment for musicians and the audience
- Underutilization of equipment
Operating a mixer demands procedures rooted in audio engineering. Mere intuition and button-pushing won't suffice without a genuine understanding of the intricacies.
This course equips you with the fundamentals to adeptly operate any analog audio console. Step-by-step procedures provide mastery over sound control, with concepts extending to future use of digital consoles.
Topics covered include:
- Common connections of audio consoles
- Universal console sections, regardless of brand or model
- Comprehensive overview of buttons and knobs found on professional and semi-professional consoles
- Proper gain adjustment techniques
- Effective use of sub-groups and buses
- Principles for equalizing a sound system and individual channels
- Utilizing audio effects on a mixer (reverb, echo, delay, etc.)
- Sending signals to stage monitors for musicians

Sometimes it was hard to understand his accent. This is why Mr. Galvan needs to produce downloadable PDFs of his course so students can easily follow along with no issues. Mr Galvan needs to express his links and videos in complete English and not Spanish. Not everybody does not understands or speaks Spanish. Also, Mr. Galvan needs to update his course explaining his lectures on newer advanced mixing consoles, as technology has changed. Overall, the course was straightforward and not too complex.
