How Religion Shaped Your Mind, A Study of Erich Neumann's Book
What is the subjective journey of man from animal to self responsible conscious adult? We know there is something unique about man, but what exactly is it? What makes us different, special? In this course we journey through Erich Neumann's book, The Origins and History of Consciousness. Which was the book Jung said he wished he'd written. We look at the various myths and religions of the world to identify the major points of emergence for consciousness. Those moments in human history where the light of human reason rose up and over the chaotic waters of primordial myth, which, as we will learn, is a form of psychological projection. Those who complete this course will understand religion, spirituality, and themselves much more. The course is best preceded by our lecture series on Jung, since we rely on Jungian concepts extensively in this material, but the course is for anyone who is interested in retracing the major footsteps of man's great mythic journey. The entire Enlighten University curriculum hits a kind of peak in this course. There is still a lot more to cover but this specific series really brings together many pieces from preceding lectures. This course is part of our wider series with Enlighten University. The textbook is recommended but not necessary.
