What You’ll Learn

Mental Health First Aid course aims to teach MHFAiders how to recognize mental health issues in those around them, how to initiate the ALGEE intervention process, and how to assist individuals in accessing community resources.

  • Skills in identifying signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and crisis
  • Skills in providing appropriate initiate help and support before the situation get worse
  • Assist individuals in needs to seek for appropriate professional services or appropriate social resources
  • Each participant will receive a set of "Standard Mental Health First Aid" Manuals.
  • Each participant who attends 100% of the course will receive a certificate for completing the "Standard Mental Health First Aid" Course.

First aiders will learn the following skills:

  • Identify common mental health problems and their signs and symptoms
  • Learn the five key actions (ALGEE)
  • Become familiar with community resources

The course consists of four modules:

  • What is Mental Health First Aid?
  • First aid for depression
  • Anxiety disorders and substance misuse
  • What is mental illness?

Ms. Lai has over 30 years of experience in youth services and an in-depth understanding of adolescent mental health counselling and crisis intervention. She is skilled in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and providing support to young people and their parents. In recent years, Ms. Lai has focused on providing mental health education and training to in-service teachers and post-secondary students, fostering a deeper understanding and awareness of mental health.
