Course Overview
This course introduces the basic knowledge and practical skills of building inspection. It covers construction processes, building structures, and building services systems, as well as inspection standards for new buildings and common issues in existing buildings.
Through theory and practical demonstrations, participants will learn how to use inspection tools, carry out inspections, and prepare reports, enhancing their ability to identify defects and assess building quality.
This course is suitable for individuals interested in building inspection, property management, and the construction industry.

Course Contents
Basic Knowledge of Construction and Workflow
- Fundamentals of construction processes, project roles, and workflow
- Basic understanding of structural elements (beams, columns, walls, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of waterproofing and construction progress
- Introduction to building services systems (ventilation, fire services, water supply, electrical, and communication systems)
- Basic knowledge of architectural and structural drawings
- Basic physical properties of building materials
Introduction to property management
- Inspection of New Buildings and Standards
- Inspection tools and their applications
- Inspection standards
- Inspection methods and key precautions
- Inspection methods, standards, and common defects across different trades
- Preparation of building inspection reports
Common Problems in Existing Buildings
- Methods for identifying water seepage and structural issues
Practical Training
- Demonstrations and hands-on practice
Assessment
- Written examination and practical assessment
Schedule
- 1 to 2 nights per week, 18:30 - 21:30 / 19:00 - 22:00 or Saturdays if necessary. Please refer to the time table.
- Duration: 24 hrs. The normal duration for completion of the course is around 2 or 3 months.
