Important Note: This course employs a thorough, repetition-heavy approach that may not suit all learners. If you're simply looking to quickly grasp the concept of 5-Whys, you might find it overly detailed. However, if your goal is to truly master the methodology and apply it extensively in your work, this course is absolutely excellent. The instructor's deliberate, in-depth teaching style effectively reinforces the 5-Whys technique through abundant practice and varied explanations. What impressed me most was the emphasis on both proactive and reactive applications – a critical distinction that significantly expands the technique's utility beyond typical troubleshooting scenarios. The "past, present, and future" technique further provides a practical lens for approaching different situations. The course design accommodates flexible learning: you can passively absorb lectures during other activities, then actively engage with pen-and-paper exercises, review your work, and consolidate understanding with the "fundamentals continued" section. This structured approach makes it ideal for those committed to deeply learning and regularly using Root Cause Analysis in their professional practice.

Overall, I would say that this video can be a bit heavy-handed and repetitive, however, it is still useful for someone who is new to the concept of Root Cause Analysis. This Udemy course covers the concept of a 5 Whys Diagram. In this course, you will learn the value of the 5 Whys Diagram as well as participate in several examples. This is a great course for someone who is new to the concept of Root Cause and may not grasp why getting to the root cause of a problem is valuable in a business setting. The user will learn how to perform a 5 Whys Diagram. In addition, the video discusses some common pitfalls and how to avoid them. One common pitfall is offering solutions before you have gotten to the root cause. For example, if the root cause of a broken machine is user error, the solution will be different than if the root cause is a defective part. Another common pitfall is that people may be inclined to offer more than one “Why” to the original problem, when each “Why” should actually be applied to the previous “Why.” This action continues until you reach a logical stopping point.

It's a tool that enables larger organizations to find out the real problem or proactively to avoid a real problem and the more people are used to the tool, the faster is the problem resolution or the better new processes are designed.
