Course Overview

The aim of the MSc(Eng)(IDT) programme is to prepare students for the fast-changing world in which innovative design and technology are the driving force of the future. Through this programme, students will acquire essential knowledge and practical skills for developing novel solutions, services or products to help further promote Hong Kong's development in innovation and technology.

Normative study period: 1 year. Maximum study period: 2 years. Classes mainly on weekday evenings and Saturdays. Lectures of a few modules may be given during daytime of weekdays to suit mainly full time students. There are two semesters and one summer semester in an academic year.

What You’ll Learn

The MSc(Eng)(IDT) has an interdisciplinary curriculum by drawing on the expertise from diverse areas of engineering with a technology focus. In additional to learning general knowledge on innovative design and manufacturing, students can customise a personal portfolio to meet their particular needs of an in depth knowledge, interests and career goals in different areas. Besides, students will be required to complete an interdisciplinary capstone project to discover how to apply technologies to solve practical problems. The programme responds to the emerging needs for talents who can create and apply technologies for solving various types of problems, and realise the invention for the benefit of mankind.

Graduates will take up leading roles in making change in the world and make impact in Hong Kong as well as other parts of the world.

Students are required to complete 48 credits plus a dissertation (equivalent to 24 credits) to graduate.
