Course Overview

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of business writing is to motivate addressees into taking the actions required by the writer. If this purpose is not achieved, the writing becomes unsuccessful. In today’s business environment, enterprises face unprecedented cut-throat competitions. To survive and to succeed are certainly not easy by any standards, and yet enterprises have no choice but to face the harsh reality head-on. One of the effective means to ensure survival and success is to be fully capable of producing business writings that are clear and effective, and that can lure potential customers into taking the actions desired.

Hong Kong today faces a difficult situation where the standard of English is commonly lower than before. Many writers of English produces letters, emails, memos that are strewn with grammatical mistakes and obscured expressions with the result that such correspondences end up in creating misunderstanding or even no understanding. Such, of course, is lamentable. In view of the prevailing situation, the HKMA organizes this course with the ultimate view to improving the overall English
proficiency of the participants, thereby making them more effective in their work, and preparing them for advancement in their career.
