Course Overview

Overview
The purpose of business writings is to motivate addressees into taking the action required by the writer. If this purpose is achieved, business writings are said to be result-oriented. If this purpose is not achieved, then the business writings become unsuccessful. In today’s environment, enterprises face unprecedented cut-throat competitions. To survive and to be successful are certainly not easy by any standards, and yet enterprises have no choice but to face the harsh reality head-on if they wish to survive and to be successful. One of the effective means to ensure survival and to success is to be fully capable of producing business writings that are clear and effective, and that can lure potential customers into taking the action desired. Hong Kong today faces a difficult situation where the standard of English is indeed low compared with that of the fifties and sixties. Many writers of English produces correspondences, emails, memoranda etc that are strewn with grammatical mistakes and obscured expressions with the result that such correspondences end up in creating misunderstanding or even no understanding. Such, of course, is lamentable. In view of prevailing situation, the HKMA has decided to run this course with the ultimate view to improving the overall English proficiency of participants, thereby making them more effective in their work, and thereby preparing them for advancement in their career.
