Course Overview

INTRODUCTION
English and Chinese are the two most commonly used languages over the world, and are the official languages in Hong Kong. Translation from English to Chinese and vice versa is frequently required in communications among the general public, the business sector and the public sector. Translation and interpretation skills are definitely an important asset to executives working in global enterprises in metropolitan cities like Hong Kong.

With the closer ties between Hong Kong, Mainland China and the world, there has been an increasing demand for professional translators and interpreters in recent years. This course is specially designed to cater to this need, and ensures that participants will acquire the essential skills to deal with jobs relating to translation and interpretation. The course will also provide a wide array of practical training for participants, with a strong emphasis on business application.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able:
1. to develop a better command of English and Chinese
2. to understand how to pursue a career as a translator and interpreter
3. to grasp various techniques for translation and interpretation
4. to acquire skills to deal with jobs relating to translation and interpretation

LANGUAGE MEDIUM
Cantonese (supplemented with English terminology)
Course manuals will be in English

AWARD OF CERTIFICATE
A participant who has
1. maintained a minimum of 70% overall attendance of total lecture hours (i.e. 6 out of 8 sessions); and
2. passed the mid-term assignment; and
3. passed the final project
will be awarded a “Certificate in Translation and Interpretation”.
