Course Overview
Programme Objectives
This Programme targets graduates to operate with an appropriate command of English as second language and Chinese as first language, equipped at the same time with knowledge of German or Japanese as their third language, for assisting in the discharge of general translation and other related administrative and executive tasks in their employment, demonstrating at the same time acquaintance with operational skills in translation technology as well as possession of a broad general knowledge, generic skills and an awareness of cultural elements that underpin translation and related administrative tasks.
Programme Intended Learning Outcomes
- Exercise an appropriate proficiency in English and Chinese for practical translation on the job as junior executives or management trainees;
- Apply theoretical and practical skills for translation between Chinese and English in relevant working environments;
- Exercise an essential proficiency in English and Chinese, as well as knowledge of German or Japanese as third language, in general communication;
- Apply translation technology techniques and skills for effective and efficient translation in practical domains;
- Demonstrate a general knowledge and command of generic skills in practical communication;
- Demonstrate a basic ability to offer assistance to or perform translation tasks at the paraprofessional level; and
- Serve ethical and professional standards in translation industry or other relevant areas.
