Course Overview

Welcome to our block-release study option for WSET Level 3 Wines! This online-based study programme is designed to accommodate your existing commitments while providing you with comprehensive education in an advanced level qualification in wine.

The course is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of grape growing and wine making as well as their influences on the final wine style, quality and price. The in-class tasting will be grouped by wine style rather than by country to strengthen students’ understanding of the important concepts of style and quality. On top of a brand new course design and structure, the course textbook, study guide and complementary teaching materials are completely upgraded to enhance students’ learning experience.

This programme consists of:

  • 6 sessions (14 hours in total ) of LIVE virtual lectures and revision sessions with AWSEC Principal Educator Jennie Mack
  • 2 days (16 hours in total) of immersive classroom tastings of 50+ carefully selected samples in Hong Kong — home to the world’s most diverse wine selection!
  • A comprehensive range of supplementary study materials including a bespoke program workbook with over 30 pages, information videos, feedback exercises and online quizzes to support your learning journey

All supplementary materials are curated by AWSEC Principal Educator Jennie Mack, who has over 20 years of teaching experience in WSET Level 3 Wines and Level 4 Diploma.

An additional 2 hours of self-study per week is recommended.

The exam must be completed in person at AWSEC Hong Kong Centre on a set date.

You will receive a WSET Level 3 Wines e-book by default, or you may opt for the physical study pack available to pick up at our centre or delivered to you at a fee. Please note you may ONLY choose to have either the e-book OR the physical study pack.

This study option is perfect for:

  • Busy professionals who are unable to commit to the full duration of classroom studies at our Hong Kong centre
  • Wine enthusiasts who prefer self-paced study
  • Global learners who wish to receive the high-quality teaching that AWSEC is known for

Candidates will be required to pass a closed-book examination, comprising two units.

Examination:

  • Unit One: A written assessment of two parts comprises:
  • Part 1: 50 multiple-choice questions
  • Part 2: Four short written answers of 25 marks each
  • Unit Two: A practical tasting paper in the form of a blind tasting of two wines.

Exam Duration:

  • Unit One: 2 Hour
  • Unit Two: 30 Minutes

Passing Grade:

In order to be awarded the WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines, candidates must achieve a pass (55%) in all papers and both units of the examination.
