Sales tax is one of the most misunderstood—and most critical—aspects of doing business in the United States. But once you understand how it works, it becomes a powerful tool, not a terrifying obstacle.
Whether you're a business owner, a bookkeeper, an aspiring accountant, or a tax professional looking to grow your expertise, this course will unlock the practical, real-world skills you need to confidently manage sales tax across all 50 states. You’ll go far beyond theory—learning how to apply, register, collect, file, and stay compliant in even the most complex business scenarios.
From small-town shops to nationwide e-commerce brands, businesses are navigating a maze of rules, thresholds, exemptions, and deadlines—and most are doing it wrong. That’s where you come in. This course will prepare you to be the person who gets it right. Who protects the business. Who saves time, money, and stress. And who knows how to turn sales tax knowledge into strategic business decisions.
You’ll Learn How To:
Determine when a business has nexus and what to do about it
Register to collect sales tax across jurisdictions, states, and platforms
Calculate sales tax properly for in-person, online, wholesale, and out-of-state sales
Handle special scenarios like coupons, returns, construction projects, and exemptions
Work with modern tax software like Avalara, TaxJar, and TaxCloud
File timely, accurate returns—and avoid costly penalties and audits
You’ll also dive into specialized industries like construction and e-commerce, where sales tax can make or break a business. Through real-world case studies and hands-on practice projects, you'll learn how to navigate sales tax in the field—just like a professional would.

I gave 4.5 stars because sometimes the sound and video quality was off but overall I think it was a great course. Long and complicated but this is going to help set me apart from other freelancers, get more clients and charge more. I'm going to have to go through it a few more times and complete the 2 projects but Im very glad I took this course!

WOW! I had no idea sales tax was so complicated. I'm gonna go through the content a few more times and try the projects. It's really a lot but it opened my eyes to the possibilities, especially in e-commerce. Most people never heard of nexus and the Wayfair decision. It's probably gonna get a lot of businesses in trouble but if they hire me I cam warn them. LOL. The sound was a little sketchy but the content and the delivery was great. I'll definitely take more of Joes' courses.
