Course Information
Course Overview
Create a Collection Of Abstract Portraits in Fauvism Style
This course is designed for anyone who wants to expand their creativity and knowledge on abstract art or for anyone interested in learning portraiture in fauvism style from an artist with many years of experience in the fine art industry.
This course in intended for beginner to intermediate students, but even advanced students will learn something from this course.
In this course we will focus on how to work in acrylics by using 3 key techniques in creating a series of abstract portraits by using basic art materials and a limited pallet.
We will explore how to introduce shadows and highlights by using vibrant colors and textures and how to focus on the values of a reference image and how to apply it onto our painting. I will also show you some methods of getting your reference image onto your canvas or paper should you choose not to draw it yourself.
In this course we will not only learn the dynamics to abstract art but by the end of this course you would have created your own set of portraits, consisting of 3 different and unique portraits, yet still maintaining the style of fauvism to make them cohesive as a collection.
I look forward to painting with you soon! :)

While the paint application came with some tips, there was nothing that talked about fauvism and how to get that feel (colour, technique, etc).I purchased it to learn how to create fauvist palettes. It was a waste for me.

I liked that you skipped the drawing part so I can practice this style in my own references, all and all very happy with my outcome, Thank you! Look forward to your next portrait course! :)

Thanks for the Intro to Fauvism course! I had fun with this style that I hadn't tried before. I liked your method of instruction. I didn't see where your sample images, that you're working from, are available... if they are? (Geraldine replied to this message & provided 2 of the 3 images... issue sending the 3rd. Thanks Geraldine!!) That could have been helpful, as I discovered working from my own photograph was tricky at first (seeing where you're reading shadows and highlights). So for the 2nd two lessons I painted what you were painting. I'm going to keep practicing. This style really appeals to me! Thanks again!!
