The Development Team consistently struggles to estimate story points accurately, resulting in inaccurate Sprint planning and inconsistent delivery. Sprint Reviews frequently reveal unfinished work. How should the Scrum Master best address this ongoing challenge?
A. Switch to a different estimation technique.
B. Mandate stricter adherence to the chosen estimation technique.
C. Facilitate workshops focused on improving the team's estimation skills and collaborative refinement of the Product Backlog.
D. Introduce a points penalty for inaccurate estimations.
Answer: C
Explanations:
A. Switching estimation techniques might help, but it doesn't address the root cause of the problem, which is the team's lack of skill and understanding in the process. It's a superficial fix.
B. Mandating stricter adherence doesn’t address the team's lack of understanding. It adds pressure and can lead to resentment, hindering improvement.
C. This focuses on improving the team's collaborative estimation skills and deeper understanding of the work. Workshops provide a structured environment to enhance communication and reduce estimation inaccuracies. It tackles the problem directly.
D. Introducing penalties creates a negative and fear-based environment, hindering collaboration and open communication necessary for accurate estimations and improving teamwork. It undermines trust.
