Programme Aims

This programme aims to equip students with relevant professional knowledge and training and nurture them to become professional dental hygienists. The programme provides a fine balance of theoretical and practical education, with a focus on knowledge about oral health including periodontal disease, dental caries and oral health promotion etc., in parallel with clinical training at the dental training centre.

Professional Recognition

Graduates may apply for registration as dental hygienists with the Dental Council of Hong Kong.*

*The programme will be designed in accordance with the accreditation requirements of the Dental Council of Hong Kong.

Career Prospects

Graduates could be employed as dental hygienists in government and private dental clinics, hospitals or medical service offices of tertiary institutions, non-government organisations and so on. In addition, graduates could be employed as sale representatives in dental product and instrument companies, research assistant at dental schools and serve as oral health educators to promote dental health.

Sponsorship Scheme

To attract talented individuals to join the professional field as dental hygienists, two tuition fee sponsorship schemes, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Tuition Sponsorship Scheme for Professional Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Department of Health Sponsorship Scheme for Training of Dental Hygienists, for the Professional Diploma in Dental Hygiene have been set up. Upon successful application for the scheme and completion of the programme, subject to fulfilment of specified conditions, the graduates will receive a sponsorship of the tuition fee (up to HK$140,000).
