Course Overview
Introduction
The evolution of architectural forms is influenced by culture and fashion, society and economics, climate and geography, security and self-preservation. For architecture to be able to respond to these factors, we need to apply technology. In the past, technological limitations imposed restrictions on architecture. These days, technology is almost limitless and architectural expression can develop in exciting ways. This programme aims to develop you with a career in the architectural design industry, with thinking, creativity and implementation skills.
Programme Features
Professional recognitions
This programme qualifies for the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (CIC) Building Information Modelling (BIM) Manager Certification scheme. The graduates are eligible to apply for an Associate membership and Professional membership in HKIBIM upon graduation and after obtaining the required year of related local practical experience in BIM projects.
Employable graduates
A significant portion of our graduates have progressed to work in related fields of architectural design in positions such as architectural technologist, BIM coordinator, technical graduate, purchasing coordinator or energy, fire and environmental analyst.

What You’ll Learn
Modules
Collaborative Practices in Building Information Management & Modelling
This module aims to develop a complete awareness of BIM and its coordination in the modern construction industry. This is taught through a historical understanding of its context and development in the industry. Relevant skills are taught throughout the module in order to read, amend and create models for use in practice. Finally these skills are demonstrated by developing a building model which will be assessed for its coordination, layout and ordering to set standards
Conserving Buildings and Places
This module is designed to encourage holistic and critical thinking about the principles, policy and practice associated with conserving buildings and places. The primary theme of the module is a consideration of the extent to which cultural significance, said to be embodied-in and represented-by the built cultural heritage, can effectively inform and manage policies, procedures and technical intervention for the conservation of buildings and places.
Energy Management and Performance Evaluation (CEF Module)(CEF Code: 31Z142056)
This module provides you with opportunity to synthesise the role of an Energy Manager in preparing a feasibility report for an energy-related project in an existing building, accounting for energy generation/efficiency projections, technology assessment, regulation compliance, qualification for incentive schemes, lifecycle costs and user acceptability. You will also understand and present a formal post-occupancy evaluation and feasibility study, covering functionality, comfort, energy, sustainability and user satisfaction
Procurement and Contract Law
This module concentrates on the role of Contracts Administrator as performed under JCT contracts and explores how the obligations of various parties are defined and interpreted especially when subject to legal precedent established in case law. Various forms of contracts are acknowledged as are the reasons behind the selection of specific procurement routes that require them.
Technology and Design Studio 3 (CEF Module)(CEF Code: 31Z121687)
In this module, you will undertake a feasibility study for a potential project in order to identify, assess and challenge client/brief requirements. You will also analyse a proposed building site in order to identify its specific contextual characteristics while discussing how these conditions will impact the proposed design solutions and building performance criteria.
