Are you ready to earn your ITIL® 5 Foundation certification — the most in-demand IT service management qualification in the world?

Welcome to a comprehensive independent preparation course for the ITIL® 5 Foundation exam on Udemy — structured around the ITIL® Foundation Version 5 syllabus published in February 2025. This course is designed for two groups: candidates sitting the full ITIL® 5 Foundation exam for the first time, and ITIL® 4-certified professionals who want to upgrade quickly through the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5).

Every lecture is built around the ITIL® Foundation Version 5 syllabus — not summaries or third-party interpretations. You get exam-accurate content, scenario-based practice questions, and a structured study path that takes you from zero to certified.

What Is ITIL® 5 — And Why Is It a Game Changer?

ITIL® — the Information Technology Infrastructure Library — is the world's most widely adopted IT service management framework, trusted by over 50,000 organisations globally including 82% of the Fortune 500. Published by PeopleCert in February 2025, ITIL® Foundation Version 5 is the most significant evolution of the framework since ITIL® 4, and it changes the game in three important ways.

First, ITIL® v5 is officially AI-native. Artificial intelligence is no longer treated as an add-on — it is woven throughout the framework, from the Four Dimensions of Service Management and the AI Capability Model to automation across the Product and Service Lifecycle. ITIL® 5 gives IT professionals a structured, globally recognised methodology for managing AI-powered services responsibly and effectively.

Second, ITIL® 5 reframes the entire discipline around digital product and service management. Rather than focusing narrowly on IT operations, ITIL® v5 positions organisations as creators of digital value — through products, platforms, and services that directly drive business outcomes in a service economy.

Third, ITIL® v5 introduces a redesigned Product and Service Lifecycle with nine distinct activities — Discover, Design, Acquire, Build, Transition, Operate, Deliver, and Support — giving organisations a clear, end-to-end model for how digital products and services are created, delivered, and continuously improved.

If you are studying for the ITIL® 5 Foundation certification, you are learning the framework that will define IT service management for the next decade.

ITIL® 5 Foundation Exam — Full Details

The ITIL® 5 Foundation exam is administered globally by PeopleCert and is available via online web proctoring and authorised examination centres.

Format: Closed-book, multiple-choice Number of Questions: 40 questions Duration: 60 minutes (75 minutes for non-native English speakers where applicable) Pass Mark: 26 out of 40 correct answers — 65% Negative Marking: None — all questions should be attempted Delivery: Online proctored (from anywhere) or at an authorised PeopleCert test centre

The exam tests two levels of knowledge. Approximately 22% of questions test recall — definitions, terminology, and recognition of ITIL® concepts. The remaining 78% test understanding and application — your ability to analyse real-world scenarios and select the most appropriate ITIL® v5 response. This means exam success depends not just on memorising the framework, but on understanding how and why it works.

Exam domains covered in the ITIL® 5 Foundation exam:

Introduction to ITIL® and evolving IT service management — the purpose of ITIL®, the ITIL® ecosystem, and the benefits of ITIL® for enterprises, managed service providers, digital product vendors, and ITSM professionals.

The Four Dimensions of Product and Service Management — Organizations and People (including AI-augmented teams), Value Streams and Processes, Information and Technology, and Partners and Suppliers.

Key concepts of digital product and service management — service value, outcomes, costs, risks, digital products and services, service relationships, service journey, service quality, and service level agreements.

The ITIL® Product and Service Lifecycle — all nine lifecycle activities and how they chain together to manage digital products and services from conception through to support.

The ITIL® Value System (ITIL® VS) — guiding principles, governance, value chain operating models, management practices, and continual improvement as an integrated operating model.

The Seven ITIL® Guiding Principles — Focus on Value, Start Where You Are, Progress Iteratively with Feedback, Collaborate and Promote Visibility, Think and Work Holistically, Keep It Simple and Practical, and Optimize and Automate.

ITIL® Management Practices — all management practices mapped to value chain activities, and how each practice enables efficient and effective service delivery.

Value stream identification, mapping, and management — how to identify and optimise value streams to improve flow and drive continual improvement in digital organisations.

The ITIL® Continual Improvement Model — the seven-step model for driving lasting, measurable improvement across the service organisation.

ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) — The Fast Track for ITIL® 4 Professionals

If you already hold the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification (or any ITIL® 4 qualification, with the exception of ITIL® 4 Cloud and Sustainability), you do not need to retake the full ITIL® 5 Foundation exam. PeopleCert offers the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) — a shorter, focused exam that upgrades your certification to ITIL® v5 by testing only on what is genuinely new in the framework.

ITIL® Foundation Bridge Exam Details:

Format: Closed-book, multiple-choice Number of Questions: 20 questions Duration: 30 minutes Pass Mark: 65% (13 out of 20 correct answers) Eligibility: ITIL® 4 Foundation certificate (or equivalent ITIL® 4 qualification) Retirement Date: 31 December 2027 — after this date, ITIL® 4 professionals will need to sit the full ITIL® 5 Foundation exam

The ITIL® Foundation Bridge focuses on the key differences between ITIL® 4 and ITIL® v5: the new Product and Service Lifecycle model, the updated ITIL® Value System, AI-native practices, digital product and service management concepts, and value stream management. Passing the Bridge exam awards you the full ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certification — the same credential as the full exam route.

This course covers the complete ITIL® 5 Foundation syllabus, which means it fully prepares you for both the Foundation and Bridge exam pathways. Bridge candidates will find every topic they need covered in depth, with clear signposting throughout of what is new in ITIL® v5 relative to ITIL® 4.
